'Spider-Man 4' Will Be 'Big Flop' Without Current Team, Says Kirsten Dunst
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, MGM, New Line, Sony, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
I linked earlier today to an exclusive interview Sam Raimi did for Entertainment Weekly. In it, Raimi announced that he is "seriously interested" in directing the film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. This news has to be thrilling to New Line, but those who might not be thrilled include the millions of fans hoping for a Spider-Man 4. New Line/MGM only has the rights to The Hobbit for a limited time, and if Raimi decides to go that route, Spider-Man 4 will either have to be pushed back or a new director will have to be found. Kirsten Dunst, for one, doesn't think she'd return without Raimi, telling EW ''It's disrespectful to the whole team, I think, to do that. And audiences aren't stupid. It'd be a big flop without me, Tobey, or Sam. That would really not be the smartest move."
I think Dunst might be overestimating her popularity there, but without Tobey Maguire and Raimi, the franchise could definitely be caught in a web of trouble. Maguire has already said he's on the fence about returning for another. The Batman franchise did alright (financially if not creatively) after Michael Keaton and Tim Burton jumped ship, but the fans might smell a rat this time around. Dunst doesn't think Sony would make the movie without the original team either, saying "(Sony Chief) Amy Pascal would never do that." Sony's President of Production Matt Talbach has a different take, saying ''Listen, we're making Spider-Man 4. Our hope, dream, and intention is to do it with Sam. But I don't have a crystal ball.'' Anyone out there have one? Maybe you can help sort this out.

While Kirsten is a pretty girl, I think she's way over her head talking about anything business related. Her last dozen non-spidey films haven't really lit the world on fire. With the exception of Sunshine of the Eternal Mind, has she even done anything of note? Marie Antoinette was an obnoxious Music Video/half-hearted film.
Spidey will survive just fine without the braless girl, evil dead guy and the vegetarian.

Nice picture - absolutely terrible actress - she comes from the Winona Ryder school of untalented cuteness.

The decision might already be made if the 3rd sucks.
I thought Spiderman 2 was much better than the first, but I worry about the movie taking on too much. Marriage, Venom, Sandman, the Hobgoblin?
I was worried when I saw a recent trailer that didn't even show the Sandman. Seems like there's a lot going on.
We will see.

And here I thought it sucked the mop with the present team. Frankly, with a whole new shop you might actually be able to pay some respects to the comic books. As it is, here comes another Spidey movie I won't be able to sit through. What a shame!

Here are actresses that could (and should) replace Dunst as Mary Jane (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c4/MJPARKER.jpg/200px-MJPARKER.jpg):
Rachel McAdams
Tracey McCall
Nicole Kidman (sucked in Batman Forever but still)
All you really need is a woman with a cute face can come off as sexy and playful. Traits that Dunst didn't demonstrate in either of the first two movies.

Winona Ryder untalented?!?!HUH? Have you seen "Little Women," "The Age of Innocence," "The Crucible," and "Girl, Interrupted?" I think you're sadly mistaken about her being untalented. Oh, and I guess those two Oscar nominations mean nothing either! :)

Lets try and get back on track here fellas. Will the Spiderman franchise survive without these main players? Of course. The hardest one to replace would be Raimi because the first two movies (and I'm assuming the third one as well) have a special feel to them that defines them as a "Sam Raimi's Spiderman" experience, and audiences have proven that they love the way he has done them. Frankly, I think people love the characters in these movies, and not the actors. I cannot stand Dunst, her acting is mediocre and there is not one scene in the entire 5 hours of the first two movies where she lights up the screen. Maguire is fine, but nothing exceptional. #2 had it right...that girl is just delusional if she thinks that audiences will give a rats ass if shes replaced.

Spider Man 4 should definitely have the original cast and creative team. It would be a rip off to make changes so late. I find that it never works and like Kirsten said "its disrespectful to the whole team", I couldn't agree more. I've enjoyed all of the Spider Man movies so far, I guess we are just gonna have to wait and see how Spider Man 4 turns out! In the event you aren't ever sure about seeing a particular movie you can always check http://www.atthemoviestv.com Ebert and Roeper's premier site including awesome clips and great reviews for current and upcoming films. I got the inside scoop because I work with Disney!

Spider-man 2 was at least good enough that my 74-
year Dad enjoy watching completely through! My only
complaint was where is the Spidey sarcastic and funny humor?

I think the first two spiderman's were fantastic. The 2nd being the best so far. The third...well I was very disappointed. Too many villains...not enough back story...too rushed! If a new actor takes the roll of spiderman, MJ or any other character I will not see it. The whole Batman series got really stupid also. The only one they got right was Batman Begins and as long as they don't change directors or actors then I will continue to be a fan. We want real....if you can make the movie with the right people don't do it.
